Don Kemper presented on patient response at Dartmouth University’s Center for Informed Choice Seminar Series on December 7, 2011. We’ve made great strides in getting the right patient decision aids and other care planning tools to patients at the right time with meaningful use and electronic health records. However, when it comes to shared decision making, this is only half the task. The patient’s response to the decision aid must become a part of the clinical record and be considered in preference-sensitive clinical decisions and care plans.
Don Kemper elected to the board of the National Quality Forum, December 1, 2011. Kemper’s focus will be to advance standards and metrics for patient engagement, self-management, and shared decision-making. He says, “The consumer is the greatest untapped resource in health care and it’s time we thought about 'the accountable patient' and the metrics needed to measure the quality of patienthood.”
Don Kemper discusses why information therapy is as important as any other available therapy in an interview at the 8th Annual World Health Care Congress.
